The entertainment scene is currently mourning over the passing of the veteran singer-comedian, “OPM King,” and “Total Entertainer” Rico J. Puno. On the photo-sharing app Instagram, the late artist’s sister-in-law Anna Puno announced the heartbreaking news.
“I am seized with deep emotional shock when I found out that our OPM King – Kuya Rico J. Puno – has passed [on] this morning (Tuesday).”
Throughout Rico’s career in the music industry, he had delivered notable love songs as well as playful tunes. He was known for his husky voice, which made him easily being recognized whenever his songs played on the radio. He also made a stature in comical acting, also making him reputable comedian in the realm.

Anna added that Rico was actually about to celebrate his 40 years in the business, but then we are presently taken aback by his sudden departure. She shared:
“Starmedia prepared a solo 40th Anniversary concert for him and a US tour with the OPM stalwarts and colleagues just recently. Little did I know that this is his Final Bow in the live entertainment world. We will forever miss the TOTAL ENTERTAINER…but his songs will forever cherish in our hearts.”
Recalling, just this Sunday, October 28, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay told Rico J. Puno, through her interview with showbiz journalists, to focus on his health instead of winning another term.
Mayor Abby also mentioned that the late singer then was sick. However, she did not reveal what exactly Rico’s ailment was. She shared:
“So aanhin mo ang trabaho kung hindi ka makakapag-trabaho? He should attend more to his health. I don’t know if he can handle the stress. I wish him the best.”
