A 17-year-old mother of two just proved to everyone that she can achieve her dreams despite other people’s judgments. In an inspiring Facebook post, Joanna Marie Balase Reyes shared how she overcame the hardships of being a teenage mom and finally got the high school diploma that she had always wanted.
According to Joanna, she would often hear hurtful remarks like “Ay ang landi”, “Hindi yan makaka graduate”, and “Hala ang bata pa niya tapos dalawa na anak niya?” among others, because she became a mother at such a young age.
Instead of feeling down, however, she used these words to inspire her to do better. Two weeks ago, Joanna proudly posted her high school graduation photo along with the caption, “Prove them wrong.”
That’s right, this teenage mom just graduated from high school!
Joanna said she first got pregnant when she was 13 years old, giving birth when she was 14. At 16, she got pregnant again, giving birth to her second child at the age of 17. This prompted people to bash her for being “malandi”, but she paid them no attention.
Now, not only is she a mother to two beautiful boys, but she is also a high school graduate!
You go, girl!
